5 of the best lockdown beauty hacks
Get ready to save time, money, and effort with these top five beauty hacks that made waves during lock down. Unable to get to your beauty therapist or hairdresser? No problem. We’ve tried and tested them all, we’re obsessed, and we’ll be taking them through into our ‘new normal’ too!
1. REVIVE DRIED OUT MASCARA
Can’t bear to be apart from your favourite mascara but it’s starting to dry out? Remove the wand and carefully set aside on a sterile surface. Add a few drops of saline solution (the type used for contact lenses) to the bottle, shake, then warm the tube with a blow-dryer for 30 seconds to mix. Replace the wand, re-shake and voila!
2. WANT SALON LASHES, WITHOUT THE SALON: HEAT UP YOUR EYELASH CURLER
Once you’ve revived your favourite mascara it’s time for application, right? Wrong! Desperate for that lifted and curled salon perfect set of lashes that let’s face it are down right time consuming and expensive? Not anymore! You can achieve the look at home simply by (carefully) using your hair dryer to heat up your eyelash curler. Concentrate the heat on the pads and leave to cool slightly before putting near your eye, we don’t want any burnt eyelids. It’s the same method as curling your hair, leaving you with a more dramatic and longer lasting eyelash curl even before your mascara.
3. PUFFY EYES GETTING YOU DOWN
While you may have thought your grandma was barking for placing teabags over her eyes, she was actually on to something! This beauty hack may predate the internet, but that doesn't mean it hasn't found its way online. And, in this case, there's a good reason: It actually works. The tannins and caffeine in tea can help to constrict blood vessels and capillaries under your eyes, minimising fluid retention which causes the puffiness. Black or Green tea works best, make sure to apply them when they’re still warm (not hot!) and sit back and relax for a few minutes.
4. DIY MANICURE IN A FLASH
With all our salons being closed all of lockdown we’ve all got pretty passable at painting our own nails but STILL manage to smudge them before they’re dry. Not anymore! Make your nail polish dry in seconds by soaking your freshly painted nails in a bowl of ice water. The cold water will set the paint and help your nails dry faster, simply fill a bowl with water and add ice before beginning your home manicure. Rumour has it this can also work by putting your nails under a running cold tap, just make sure let them air dry. No tea towels please!
5. KEEPING YOUR BROWS ON FLEEK
Sometimes simple ideas really are by far the best. Keeping your brows groomed in lockdown has undoubtedly been one of our biggest challenges. With traditional tweezers going blunt quickly, Tweezerfile is an at home beauty tool which allows you to simply sharpen your tweezers at home so you can keep grabbing even the tiniest of hairs. Simply like filing your nails all you need to do is hold the Tweezerfile in one hand and the tweezer in the other and slide the tweezer up and down. Gently applying equal pressure on the top and bottom blade and get ready for tweezers to feel like new. We like to think of it as a simple solution to save you money and save on waste. It’s a win, win! If you haven’t read our previous post yet all about picking your brow personality check it out here
